Plastic packaging is increasingly replacing metal paint packaging

For nearly 20 years, plastic packaging has proven to be a better alternative to metal paint cans. Consumer complaints about rusted metal paint cans, as well as the difficulty of re-closing metal cans for storage after opening, have driven designers to develop plastic paint containers.
Sherwin-Williams did an experiment in 2002, when the company designed a square plastic paint packaging container, Twist&Pour, with a side handle and an easy-pour spout and a screw cap . In 2003, the can was awarded a Gold Medal by the Society of Industrial Designers.
At present, the plasticization of paint packaging cans in the United States has gradually become a trend. And KW Plastics, based in Troy, Alabama, has claimed to be the world's largest supplier of TruSnap all-plastic coating containers. KW Plastics, a major recycler of high density polyethylene and polypropylene, has Alabama plant opened in 1981 to recycle PP from battery casings. In 1986, the company opened a facility in Bakersfield, California, and in 1992 established KW Plastics Recycling to recycle HDPE. KW started producing plastic and metal mixed paint containers in 1998 and expanded to all plastic injection moulded paint packaging containers using 100% recycled materials.
Before plastic paint packaging became popular in the North American paint market, it was the first to be widely accepted in the European market. To mark the 50th anniversary of its customer Cofabrill, a Belgian consumer goods packaging producer, VerstraeteIML, launched a paint pail in 2016 for the company's specialty paint product, Zolpan, using gold-colored in-mold insert injection molding technology.
More recently, RPCSuperfos, a designer, developer and manufacturer of injection and thermoforming packaging based in Taastrup, Denmark, has started supplying plastic packaging cans for interior and exterior paints from Slovenian paint producer Helios. Helios chose the SuperOval barrel from RPCSuperfos because of its user-friendliness, light weight and sustainable properties.
Previously, Helios' paint products generally used metal packaging, but with the increasing popularity of water-based paint, the company has decided to switch to plastic packaging containers, and stipulated that its wall paint will only use plastic packaging cans and drums, "because More people appreciate the quality of these containers".
